Jackie Robinson broke MLB's color barrier in 1947, becoming the first African American to play Major League Baseball in the modern era. Winning Rookie of the Year, Jackie Robinson went on to play in six World Series and helped the Dodgers win the Championship in 1955. MLB retired his number 42 across the entire league. He was the first professional athlete in any sport to be so honored. A new annual tradition, "Jackie Robinson Day", honors the Late Great, on which every player on every team wears No. 42.
